Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany, shared a video of themselves covering a Luke Bryan hit to honor late conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. The brief video clip, captioned “For Charlie” and including a heart emoji, features the Aldeans singing Bryan’s somber 2014 hit “Drink a Beer,” with the musician also accompanying on acoustic guitar.
“Funny how the good ones go/ Too soon, but the good Lord knows/ The reasons why I guess,” Aldean sings as his wife joins in.
“Drink a Beer” was written by Brett Beavers and Chris Stapleton, and spent two weeks atop Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart in 2014.
The video also shows a photo of the Aldeans attending the memorial service held for the polarizing conservative activist on Sept. 21 in Glendale, Ariz. The event featured performances from Christian music artists including Chris Tomlin, Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham, and featured speakers including President Donald Trump and Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of youth conservative organization Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Sept. 10 during a question-and-answer session held at Utah Valley University as part of his group’s The American Comeback Tour. The suspect in the murder, Tyler Robinson, turned himself in to law enforcement about 33 hours after the shooting. He has been charged with aggravated murder and more; prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Shortly after Kirk’s death, Jason Aldean shared a photo on social media of the couple with Kirk, praising him and sending prayers to his family in the caption.
