Nine Inch Nails just gave fans something to believe in: The iconic industrial band surprise released a companion album to its Tron: Ares soundtrack on Friday (Feb. 27), titled Tron Ares: Divergence.

The 20-track album includes previously unreleased music from the score, as well as remixes from Meat Beat Manifesto’s Jack Dangers, Peel It Back tourmate and collaborator Boys Noize, Pixel Grip, Mark Pritchard and more. Among the remixes is Arca’s take on “As Alive As You Need Me to Be,” with the original version also receiving the surprise-release treatment in July, alongside the announcement of the soundtrack’s arrival date. The dance-floor-ready tune went on to win best rock song at the Grammys on Feb. 1, while the Tron: Ares soundtrack peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 on the Oct. 4, 2025-dated chart
Boys Noize — who will be performing alongside Nine Inch Nails as Nine Inch Noize at Coachella in April — took on remix duties for three tracks on the new companion album: “A Question of Trust,” “Ghost in the Machine” and “What Have You Done?”
Fans suspected the band may have had something in the works when NIN included an image of what appeared to be a cyber-looking grid in green and black among a collection of Polaroid photos of fans from the current leg of its Peel It Back tour posted to the group’s Instagram account on Thursday (Feb. 26). That image turned out to be a snippet of the cover art for Tron Ares: Divergence.
The Peel It Back tour first kicked off June 15, 2025, in Dublin, and wrapped its first run with two shows at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles in September. Leg two began Feb. 5 this year at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, where NIN mastermind Trent Reznor lived while working on The Fragile, which topped the Billboard 200 upon its release in 1999. The tour is scheduled to end March 16 at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif.
