Brent Faiyaz achieves his first No. 1 as a lead artist on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart as “Have To.” jumps from No. 4 to crown the list dated Feb. 7. The track, released on ISO Supremacy/United Masters, rises four spots as the most played song on U.S. panel-contributing adult R&B radio stations in the United States for the week of Jan. 23-29, according to Luminate.
For its coronation week, “Have To.” improved 25% in plays compared to its total for the previous week (Jan. 16-22). It also captures the Greatest Gainer tag, awarded each week to the song with the largest increase in play count.
With “Have To.”, singer, songwriter and producer Faiyaz lands the second No. 1 of his career on Adult R&B Airplay. His prior champ came via a featured role on Alicia Keys’ “Trillions,” which ruled for two weeks in January – February 2023.
“Have To.” previews Faiyaz’s forthcoming album, Icon, which is scheduled for release on Feb. 13. The set was expected on Sept. 19, 2025, but was “scrapped” at the last minute. In the opening moments of the “Have To.” music video, on-screen text explains the decision. “Brent Faiyaz had Icon recorded and scheduled to release on September 19, 2025,” it reads. “The night before, Brent sent us a group text pulling the plug on the album. He also had another lead single and music video. He scrapped those too, then sent us this.”
Icon follows Faiyaz’s last collection, the 2023 mixtape Larger than Life. The surprise-released project debuted at No. 2 on the Top R&B Albums chart and No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200.
Elsewhere, “Have To.” holds at its No. 10 best on the plays-based Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, though it added 8% more spins for the week. Joint strength from the adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop formats push the track 8-6 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which ranks songs by combined audience totals from both formats. There, it reached 11.2 million in audience impressions last week, up 24% from the prior week’s count of 9 million and enough to secure another Greatest Gainer honor.
