There’s a special place where boys and girls can all be queens — or heavy metal-loving horned monsters — every single day. That’s (more or less) the lesson behind Chappell Roan‘s hit “Pink Pony Club,” which GWAR took to heart with a thrashing cover of the unexpected track.
In the latest episode of The A.V. Club‘s Undercover series that arrived Thursday (Jan. 15), the members of the interplanetary rock group — dressed in their signature fantastical, slightly terrifying alien costumes — put their own spin on the glitzy dance-pop anthem, swapping in edgy guitars, pummeling drums and screamo-style vocals. Just for the occasion, guitarist Mike Derks/Balsac the Jaws of Death strapped a pink hobby horse to his costume
“God, what have you done?/ You’re a pink pony girl/ And you dance at the club,” belts frontman Mike Bishop (aka Blöthar), likely tearing up his vocal cords in the process. “Oh mama, I’m just having fun/ On the stage in my heels/ It’s where I belong.”
The cover comes a couple of months ahead of GWAR’s 2026 tour kickoff in March. With dates running through the end of April, the group’s Gor-Gor Strikes Back Tour will find them traveling to various American cities to “destroy your town,” per GWAR’s website, where ticket info is also available. The band’s seven-track The Return of Gor Gor project dropped in July.
Roan, on the other hand, has stayed more lowkey in 2026 so far after a busy 2025, much of which she spent on tour. She also picked up two new Billboard Hot 100 hits last year, first with “The Giver,” which peaked at No. 5 in March, and then with “The Subway,” which debuted at No. 3 in August.
