For years, fans have wondered about the time Hilary Duff showed up to Lindsay Lohan‘s 2003 Freaky Friday premiere amid the two starlets’ rumored feud — and finally, they’re getting answers.
While appearing on an episode of Call Her Daddy that dropped Wednesday (Feb. 25), Duff admitted at last that she was “absolutely” trying to get a rise out of Lohan by crashing the red carpet more than two decades ago.
“Yeah, I was a teenager!” Duff told host Alex Cooper with a laugh.
“But also, Chad Michael Murray invited me,” she continued of her A Cinderella Story co-star. “I don’t want to start any more stuff, but he was like, ‘You should come with me,’ and I was like, ‘Mm-hmm. Probably I should.’ I mean, what was I, like 16? No, I think I was younger than that — 15?”
Duff vs. Lohan was one of the more memorable beefs of the early 2000s, with the two then-teenagers repeatedly sparking reports of a spat over shared romantic woes with Aaron Carter. After the How I Met Your Father star — whose new album Luck … or Something dropped last week — turned up at the Freaky Friday premiere, Lohan famously appeared to seek retribution by crashing Duff’s Cheaper by the Dozen premiere a few months later.
While on the podcast, Duff told Cooper that she wasn’t surprised when Lohan gave her a taste of her own medicine. “I mean, that was, like, my childhood feud, like, nemesis,” she said. “I’m sure my publicist will be like, ‘What the f— are you doing?’ But now it’s so many years later, like, who cares?
“Also, Lindsay came up to me at a club once and was like, ‘Are we good?’” Duff added. “And I was like, ‘We’re good.’ She was like, ‘Let’s take a shot.’ I was like, ‘OK!’”
