From the TV screen to the silver screen! The stars of ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie’ chat with Billboard’s adorable host Aya about turning the popular Netflix series into a movie, what it was like working with Gloria Estefan and Kristen Wiig, and much more!
Aya:
I’m Aya and we’re here at the ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’ premiere. ¿Cómo estás?
Gloria Estefan:
¿Cómo estás? Estoy muy bien. ¿Cómo estás tú? How old are you? Five and you’re already working on the red carpet? That’s a lot to be proud of. That’s something to be proud of.
Aya:
What is your favorite part about playing Grandma Gigi?
Gloria Estefan:
My favorite part is that I’m really a grandma, so I brought a lot of what I feel for my grandson. And you know what? I brought a lot of my grandma into my character because my grandma and I were super close, and she was very special. She was very creative. She was a little bit crazy in that she did anything and everything with me. And I wanted to really, you know, like, show people that grandparents are very important in our lives.
Aya:
I like your dress.
Laila Lockhart Kraner:
Oh, thank you! I like your dress.
Aya:
What did you think when you heard ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’ was being turned into a movie?
Laila Lockhart Kraner:
I was really excited. The creators of the show, Jen and Traci, told me while we were recording in the show, then when I heard it was gonna be in the theaters too, I was even more pumped. So it was really exciting.
Sanity Nelsen:
Are you in kindergarten yet?
Aya:
I’m in kindergarten.
Sanity Nelsen:
No, no way. Oh my gosh. So you are like a total big girl.
Aya:
What’s your favorite part of playing Pillow Cat in the movie?
Sanity Nelsen:
Oh my goodness. My favorite part is that I get to sleep all the time. And I get to snore. Isn’t that crazy? So I always get to go [snoring] all the time.
Keep watching for more!
