An unsung fashion hero we don’t see getting the credit she deserves is Charli XCX.

The “Everything is romantic” singer has gone through changes in her style journey over her almost 15-year-long music career. In her early days, the British star was extremely experimental, dabbling in more maximalist silhouettes in her hyperpop era with albums like 2013’s True Romance and 2017’s Pop 2. Her style was defined by prints, eye-catching colors and unexpected silhouettes that slowly but surely began to change with the release of Crash, which she dropped in 2022.

With that album, Charli’s style went through an evolution, focusing less on the maximalist, although there were colorful moments, and leaning into a grungier aesthetic. With Brat in 2024, the singer stuck to neutrals, mostly black, sometimes with pops of that neon green mixed in. This unique evolution can be tracked in-depth with the book Icons of Style: Charli XCX: The Story of a Fashion Legend, authored by Caroline Young. For fashionistas and music fans, the book is set to release on April 9 and is currently available for preorder on Amazon, retailing for $16.95 hardcover and $8.99 for a Kindle version.

A Charli XCX fashion book.

The book is Brat green, very fitting for the star, and features a photo of Charli from the 2025 Met Gala, where the star wore a feathery black gown and a matching headdress. The book is an illustrated guide to Charli’s style evolution, as touched on above. It’s a pleasing experience to see Charli’s looks all lined up from her early days experimenting with fashion to the polished look she has now. It makes us excited to see what fashion moments Charli has in store for us, especially given that her new mockumentary, The Moment, is hitting theaters soon. The A24 film is sure to have plenty of looks in store. Any fashion and music-lover is bound to love this book. It would also make a fabulous gift at just $16.95.

Caroline Young, the author of the Charli-centric book, has also written a slew of other fashion-focused novels like The Little Book of Chloe, Audrey in Paris: The Fashion Icon in the City of Light, The Essential…Taylor Swift, The Colour of Fashion: The Story of Clothes in Ten Colours and Style Tribes: The Fashion of Subcultures, among others. Safe to say, Young is well-versed in telling stories about fashion evolution. Icons of Style is a book series that has covered a bunch of other artists. There’s books on Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and even Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya.
