(July 9, 2012) -- Merced College is the first college in the country to offer a certification class in social media, according to business office tecnology teacher Toni Reintke.
"We are the first college to be approved by the National Institute for Social Media in the nation," she told The Merced Sun-Star. "We are starting certification for a whole new discipline. "The National Institute for Social Media developed a certification test for people to become Social Media Strategists. Reintke says she helped develop the exam and teaches the course.
The class is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and July 30 to Aug. 3 at the Merced College Business Resource Center. The cost is $495 and coursework covers strategic planning; compliance, governance research and analysis; social-media marketing; and project and community management.
After taking the course, students who meet the requirement of having 64 academic units or a minimum of two years' business experience in social media are eligible to test for certificattion. Details: (209) 384-6224.
