Six Valley Drownings This Month

( SIX DROWNINGS IN VALLEY THIS MONTH)

A REFRESHING DIP IN THE POOL, OR A RIVER OR STREAM OR LAKE HAS BEEN THE TRADITIONAL WAY FOR FRESNANS TO COOL OFF WHEN THE TEMPERATURE SAILS OVER 100-DEGREES.  BUT IT'S ALWAYS BEEN A DANGEROUS WAY TO COOL OF IF THE PERSON CAN'T SWIM, OR UNDERESTIMATES THE STRENGTH OF A RIVER CURRENT, OR HOW NUMBINGLY COLD THOSE MOUNTAIN STREAMS CAN BE.

SO FAR THIS MONTH, SIX PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY - - AND MORE PROBABLY WILL DROWN BEFORE THE SUMMER IS OVER.  MANY OF THOSE DEATHS COULD BE PREVENTED BY PROPER TRAINING, COMMON SENSE, AND WATCHFUL PARENTS.  AND, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES SAY THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR WATER ACCIDENTS IS ALCOHOL.
