Fresno City Budget Approved

THE FRESNO CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THE MAYORS BUDGET TODAY AND THAT MEANS HUNDREDS OF WORKERS WILL BE LAID OFF.  MORE THAN 200 JOBS INCLUDING  POSITIONS IN THE POLICE, PARKS AND PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENTS ARE BEING CUT…FRESNO CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT LARRY WESTERLUND CALLED IT A DIFFICULT DECISION. THE CITY WAS LOOKING AT A 31 MILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT IN ITS GENERAL FUND IF IT DIDN’T MAKE CUTS NOW AND WESTERLUND SAID MORE CUTS ARE A POSSIBILITY LATER THIS YEAR. FRESNO MAYOR ASHLEY SWEARINGIN IS EXPECTED TO SIGN THE BUDGET IN A STATEMENT RELEASED TODAY THE MAYOR SAID "THE HARD DECISIONS THAT WE MADE IN THIS BUDGET HAVE PUT THE CITY OF FRESNO ON THE PATH TO FISCAL STABILITY". IT ALSO CHANGES THE WAY THE CITY DOES BUSINESS INCLUDING OUTSOURCING AND FRANCHISING SOME CITY SERVICES.
