Whooping Cough Epidemic in Valley

( WHOOPING COUGH EPIDEMIC )
 WHOOPING COUGH IS NOW AN EPIDEMIC IN CALIFORNIA.  STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS SAY WHOOPING COUGH IS ON PACE TO BREAK A 50-YEAR RECORD FOR INFECTIONS AND DEATHS.  AS OF JUNE 15TH, CALIFORNIA HAD 910 CASES OF THE HIGHLY CONTAGEOUS DISEASE, AND FIVE BABIES HAVE DIED FROM IT.
 HEALTH DEPARTMENT EXPERTS HAVE LONG ARGUED THAT ALL CHILDREN SHOULD BE VACCINATED AGAINST WHOOPING COUGH, AND PARENTS, CAREGIVERS AND INFANTS SHOULD GET A BOOSTER SHOT.
 THE LARGEST INCREASE IN PERTUSSIS CASES IS IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND THE BAY AREA.  229 CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN FRESNO COUNTY WITH ONE DEATH.
