Controlled Burn Policy Tightened

( CONTROLLED BURNS AT YOSEMITE)
LAST SUMMER'S RUNAWAY CONTROLLED BURN WILDFIRE CALLED THE "BIG MEADOW" FIRE HAS PROMPTED SOME CHANGES IN THE WAY THEY'LL DO IT THIS YEAR.  THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE WILL TIGHTEN RULES ABOUT WHERE AND WHEN AND HOW CONTROLLED BURNS ARE CONDUCTED THIS SEASON.  AFTER THE BIG MEADOW FIRE JUMPED ITS BOUNDARIES LAST AUGUST, IT BURNED FOR TWO WEEKS AND DESTROYED 75-HUNDRED ACREW OF HEALTHY TIMBER.  THE PURPOSE OF THE BURN WAS TO CLEAR OUT ACCUMULATED FUEL ON THE FOREST FLOOR.
