Supervisors Approve Parts of Budget

 ( FRESNO COUNTY BUDGET )
THE FRESNO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS VOTED LAST EVENING TO RESTORE ABOUT 6-MILLION DOLLARS TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUDGETS.  IT MEANS THAT SHERIFF MARGARET MIMS WILL NOT NEED TO LAY OFF CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS OR DEPUTIES.  HOWEVER, DISTRICT ATTORNEY ELIZABETH EGAN WILL BE FORCED TO LAY OFF 11 PROSECUTORS AND THREE INVESTIGATORS, AND PROBATION HEAD LINDA PENNER WILL BE FORCED TO CLOSE 50 OF 440 BEDS AT THE JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.
AS OF JULY FIRST, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE WILL BE
25-PERCENT SMALLER THAN IT WAS  TWO YEARS AGO, EVEN THOUGH THE CASE LOAD CONTINUES TO SKYROCKET.
