(Sept. 24, 2012) -- A community lecture series dissecting same-sex marriage, war and peace is planned by Fresno State.
The 2012 Leon S. Peters Ethics Lecture Series begins Wednesday 5-6 p.m. in the Alice Peters Auditorium in the Peters Business Building. Dr. Carren Sherkat, professor of sociology at Southern Illinois University, will lead a discussion of "Social Science and the Same Sex Marriage Debate."
The other programs are set for:
-- 6-8 p.m. Oct. 4, the film “Body of War” will be screened at the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center in the Student Recreation Center. A discussion afterward will be led by Dr. Sudarshan Kapoor, professor emeritus of social work education and founder of the Fresno State Peace Garden. He will be joined by members of local peace and veterans groups and Fresno State students.
-- 3-4 p.m.Oct. 12, Dr. James Sterba, a professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, will discuss “From Rationality to (Substantial) Equality” at the Alice Peters Auditorium.
-- 3-4 p.m. Nov. 28, the series concludes with an examination of “Imagining Gender: Sex Difference Research in Evolutionary Psychology,” led by Dr. Letitia Meynell, an associate professor of philosophy at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. The lecture will be in the Alice Peters Auditorium.
