(Sept. 17, 2012) -- Fresno Unified School District Trustee Tony Vang announced his
resignation from the board today. KYNO host Bill McEwen reported on The Drive today that Vang cited increased commitments to his teaching job at Fresno State and to his family. He didn't address community demands that he resign because of residency questions.
The Fresno Bee's Heather Somerville first broke the story that Vang had lived
outside the district. The story was based on voting and court records,
interviews with neighbors and family school records. Vang's term was
set to expire in 2014.
He had represented the McLane High district. Fresno Unified confirmed Vang's resignation in a statement and said the district "will work swiftly and deliberately" to fill Vang's seat
on the board. Three other board seats are up for election in November.
