(Sept. 16, 2012) -- Fresno State senior safety Phillip Thomas was named the National Defensive Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards organization on Sunday.
Thomas was also selected as the CFPA Defensive Back Performer of the Week following his monster game against Colorado when he helped lead the 'Dogs to a 69-14 victory.
The 6-1, 215-pound Bakersfield native intercepted three passes against the Buffaloes and returned two of them for touchdowns.
His three picks tied both school and Mountain West records, while his two interceptions returned for touchdowns tied the MW record.
Three other Bulldogs also were honored. Wide receiver Isaiah Burse and running back Robbie Rouse were honorable-mention selections for the CFPA's All-Purpose Performer of the Week.
Punter Andrew Shapiro was an honorable mention for Punter of the Week after he boomed a career-long 69-yard punt against Colorado.
