Chris Nieto

Birthday:  July 24

Hometown: Salinas, CA

General info:  Graduated from Fresno State in 1998 with BA in Mass Communications & Journalism, worked for 4 years as TV sportscaster, K-Jewel Sports Director since 2002.

Hobbies:  Golfing, fishing, playing with my kids Lauren and Jacob, riding my Sea-Doo…. And did I mention golfing?

Sports highlight?: Shooting a 2-under par 70 at Fig Garden in 2006.

Favorite sports teams:  St. Louis Rams, SF Giants, LA Lakers

Best sports moment as a fan: Super Bowl XXXIV.  The Tackle.

Worst sports moment as a fan: Super Bowl XXXVI.  Adam Vinateri’s game winning kick.  A close second… Game 6 2002 World Series.

Best sports moment on the job:  Covering the Fresno State Bulldog baseball team in Omaha as they won the 2008 National Championship.

Worst sports moment on the job: Being run over by a referee while shooting video on the sidelines.  And have you ever smelled an NFL locker room?  Wow.

Exciting interviews:  I’ve had the pleasure of talking with lots of sports stars but the two most memorable interviews were with Willie Mays and Jack Nicklaus.

Favorite artists:  Pearl Jam (I know PJ isn’t played on K-Jewel but trust me, they’re great), the Beatles, the Eagles, and Sam Cooke.

The best movie of all time is:  Hoosiers.  Predictable, I know because I’m the sports guy, but still… what a movie.  Jimmy Chitwood is the best pure shooter ever.

If I could change one thing in sports:  I would add a playoff system for college football.  It’s the only true way to decide a National Champion.  And don’t get me started on the DH………
